odds & ends

Thursday was Starla's 2nd dance class. She's so cute. I can't wait until the recital....

After dance on thursday we went to Roman's school for the "Parent Fair" which was basically open house. The music teacher told me that she wants Roman to try out for the Oklahome State Honor Choir next month, and that she has literally been waiting since he was in the 1st grade for him to get to be a 4th grader because she wanted him to try out. :) She also said in all her years as a music teacher she has never had a student of hers audition for it, because she just didn't have a student who had such a good voice and wasn't afraid of it, until now. He's excited about it. He's also joining the chess club at school, and wants to audition for The Disney Channel who are in town holding auditions for kids ages 6-19. We'll see if we can get him a time slot to audition.....

I love Starla's room, when it's clean! Which doesn't happen very often, so I had to take a picture, lol. I spent my friday evening cleaning her room and weeding out toys since she got new ones for her birthday.

Each year at Disney on Ice we buy a character cup with a snowcone in it. I have been going every year since 97 (I took my neices the first 2 years, Bourbon was born like a week after the one in 98!). I think I love it more than the kids! This year it is just Starla & I going on Monday morning, I can't wait. We keep discussing who we think we might get to add to our collection this year.....

Saturday we got to go to our friend Bryson's birthday party at the Orr Family Farm, which is always fun! We got to pet animals, ride the train, ride the carousel and just have a fun time!

My amazingly crafty friend Kristal posted a blog about these awesome menu boards (click here to see it)(Kristal is also the one who made mine & the boys shirts for Starla's party, as well as my crown and all the "eat me" & "drink me" tags. I don't think I gave her props for those yet, so there ya go Kristal, you rock!) Her menu board was so cute and looked so simple to make, so I made on Saturday! All you do is take a picture frame, slip in some decorative paper (which can be changed out for the seasons or mood changes!) and hten put some stickers on top of the glass, and then you can write on it with a dry erase marker! I have always put my menu on a sheet of notepad paper and stuck it on the fridge with magnets, now I can have a pretty menu!! Thanks Kristal!

I've been meaning to make a hair bow holder for Starla for like a year now and just haven't done it. So while I was in my crafty mood Saturday I made all the gerber daisies from Starla's b-day party decorations into hiar clips, except for one which I made into the top of the hair clip holder. So now we can just clip Starla's clips & bows onto the ribbon when they aren't in her hair. Obviously I need to make more than one since this one is filled with flower clips now......

Tomorrow would have been my brother Scott's 37th birthday had he not passed away from Cystic Fibrosis when he was 17 in 1991. Since his cemetary isn' far from church, the 2 kiddos & I went there after church today to take Scott some of Starla's glittery flowers and colorful pinwheels from her party.

"Do not weep for I have lived", Scott picked out that phrase to put around his vase.

It's so weird to think that in January he will have been gone for 20 years, which is longer than he was alive. I can't even imagine what he would be like at 37, and yet in my mind he is older than me. He's always older than me, he's my big brother, so even though he is forever a 17 year old, and I always picture him as his 17 year old self in my head, my mind always thinks of him as older than me. It's strange.

Happy Birthday Scotty. We love you and miss you.

Nate, me, Scott & Mark
